  6. For the next six weeks, you are invited to try all the powerful
  7. features of Momentum Trader.

  9. Momentum Trading is the practice of making buy and sell
  10. decisions based on short term fluctuations of the market
  11. (following the market momentum).  It isn't talked about a
  12. lot, but many insiders and brokers use this technique (but
  13. not this powerful software) to enhance their own portfolios.

  16. market data to identify opportune stocks for momentum
  17. trading did not exist for the small investor.  Momentum Trader

  25. It is impractical to distribute Momentum Trader(TM) with
  26. historical data files, since you will wish to keep them current
  27. each trading day.  However, to get you started, we have pre-
  28. installed a list of more than two hundred active stocks into
  29. your tracking list.  Although you can add to or delete stocks
  30. from this list at any time, you may wish to use the supplied
  31. list for a few days to get the hang of it.

  33. No action is required on your part to use this pre-installed
  34. list of stocks and indices.  Later, as you become more familiar
  35. with the program, you can tailor the list to your needs (see
  36. menu 'File', 'Edit Stock List').

  40. You can use Momentum Trader(TM) to track hundreds of stocks.
  41. Download them from CompuServe(R) at the end of each trading day  
  42. to add to your history files.  A portfolio of 250 stocks,
  43. mutual funds, and market indices takes about 10-15 minutes
  44. a day, and need not be attended when downloading.  Momentum
  45. Trader will beep you for inspection of the data and hang up
  46. the phone when the download is finished.

  48. Then the fun begins.  Historical plots of the last hundred days
  49. are maintained for each of the stocks you have placed in your
  50. list, with technical data to help you with your investment
  51. decisions.  Powerful screening algorithms allow you to select
  52. from your list those stocks that meet your trading criteria
  53. on a particular day.

  57. Several discount brokers will allow trades of stock for a
  58. single, low, fixed price which in blocks of a hundred or more
  59. shares results in a trading price of only a few cents a
  60. share.

  62. When tracking a portfolio of a few hundred active stocks, 
  63. Momentum Trader will usually find several stocks whose high
  64. minus low for that day vastly exceeds the trading cost. You 
  65. will quickly learn which stocks have high volatility, and can 
  66. watch them for buy and sell opportunities.

  68. In the same way, Momentum Trader will screen for stocks which
  69. have increased or decreased x percent in y days.  Ten percent
  70. in two days is not unusual for individual stocks.

  72. >5, Hint - Operating the Menus

  75. The easiest way to use the features of Momentum Trader(TM) is
  76. with the mouse.  Just click on the command or feature you wish
  77. to activate.  Note the similarity to operating Microsoft 
  78. Windows(R).

  80. If you prefer, however, press and hold the <Alt> key while
  81. pressing the highlighted character of the command you wish to
  82. activate.

  84. A third method is to press the <Tab> key until the command you
  85. want is highlighted, then press <Enter>.

  89. Momentum Trader(TM) uses numerous lists as a user interface, to
  90. make selection of information easy for you. First, there is the 
  91. list of stocks to track, accessed from the menu 'File', 
  92. 'Edit Stock List'.  Then, stocks are selected for plotting from 
  93. various lists.

  95. -Use the arrow keys, the <PgUp> <PgDn> keys to scroll the list.

  97. -Press the first letter of your choice and you will jump instantly
  98. to the first item beginning with that letter.

  100. -The mouse can be used to highlight a visible choice, or with the
  101. scrollbar to scroll through the list.  A double click with the
  102. mouse selects an item (or press OK to select the highlighted item)

  165. Saturday or Sunday.  Just highlight the correct day and press 'OK'

  170. Momentum Trader(TM) provides powerful tracking and plotting
  171. tools for keeping track of hundreds of stocks.  There will, 
  172. however, be stocks of particular interest to you, such as stocks 
  173. you have in your portfolio or are considering for purchase.

  175. These stocks can be added to the "Watch" List.  At any time
  176. during the trading day, select 'Comm Link', 'Download Watch
  177. Prices' to download just these stocks.  They will be available
  178. for viewing in tabular form (15 minute delay on CompuServe).
  179. They will NOT be added to the history file, (which would 
  180. defeat the purpose of the historical plots), but are for
  181. tracking during the course of the trading day.

  189. Several market indices are available for download from
  190. CompuServe, and Momentum Trader will track and plot these 
  191. in the same way it tracks and plots stocks.

  193. You would not want these indices to be selected during a stock
  194. screening, however, cluttering up your selected list with
  195. indices.  Mark each index as it is added to "Ignore", so that
  196. the screening algorithms will not pick the indices when screening.

  198. Mark indices to "Ignore" from the 'File', 'Edit Stock List' menu.

  200. It is possible to mark both "Watch" and "Ignore" for the same
  201. index.  It will show up in the Watch list, but will not be
  202. selected during a screening.
